Abe's Birthday Banner

Hi Stampers,

Today I'd like to share with you the birthday banner I made for Abe's 1st birthday party, which was yesterday at TPC Deere Run.  I was a little "scared" of how long it turned out, but they had the PERFECT place for to hang.

It's hard to read in this picture, but it said: Happy 1st Birthday Abe.

Here's a close up of the 1st part . . .

and the Abe!

The theme was golf, since it was at the golf course where Abe's daddy works.  The colors used were Yoyo Yellow, Glorious Green and Whisper White (John Deere colors).  To go with the golf theme I used my 1-3/8" circle punch and ran it through the Big Shot with my Textured Plates to make white golf balls for the bottom of each pennant.

If you have any questions, please ask!

Abe's 1st Birthday Card

Hi Stampers,

Today is going to be a very fun day as we are attending a 1st birthday party for a little boy named Abe.  So today I'd like to share with you the card I made for Abe.

I used the Sale-a-bration stamp set Happy Moments and as you know you can get it for FREE with a $50 purchase.  Colors used are Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black and Whisper White.

For the inside I knew I wanted to do something special for Abe, so I got out my Big Shot and Pop-Up Cake die and went to work.

The designer paper came from the scrapbook kit, Sunny Day.

Thanks for stopping by today . . . enjoy your weekend, and make sure to check back tomorrow for the birthday banner I did for Abe's party.

Rag Quilt Purse

Stampers,

Before I forget today by 5pm is the RSVP deadline for the Sunny Day Stamp-a-Stack in Monmouth on Saturday, March 6th.  Click HERE for the details.

OK onto today's share.

I am so very excited to share with you a project I just finished last night.  It's my first Rag Quilt Purse with the Scallop Square die and I'm sure it won't be my last.  In fact I just went to JoAnn's yesterday and purchased some more fabric to make another bag. :o)

Isn't it so cute!!!

To make your own Rag Quilt Purse you'll need the Big Shot, Cutting Pads and Scallop Square Die.  For my project I only used two patterns of fabric plus a solid for the handles and closing strap.

First you'll want to cut out a bunch of fabric scallop squares. . . 38 to be exact using your Big Shot and Scallop Square Die.

You'll also cut 19 squares of batting (3-1/4 x 3-1/4) You will use 2 scallop squares and sandwich the batting inside.

Then take it to your sewing machine and stitch from corner to corner so you make an X.  If you look close you'll see my X in the picture below.

When you're done with your scallop squares you'll have a total of 19 "finished" squares.

You'll want to lay your scallop squares out so that you can see how the pattern will layout.  Here I just did an alternating pattern.

After you have the scallops where you want them you'll sew them together making sure to leave your scallops on the outside.  You could also make a purse or a bag and put the scallops on the inside. . . it just all depends how you want your project to look.

Here's what my project looked like after I had all of my Scallop Squares stitched together. . . notice my "seams" are on the outside of my project.

The next step (and the step I didn't want to do it) was to make the handles and the closing strap.  The reason why I wasn't thrilled about doing them was having to stitch straight. (ick!)  You see with the Rag Quilt Purse you don't really have to worry about stitching straight because all of your "seams" are on the outside, so it hides your lines.  But with the handles and closing strap it's pretty noticeable especially when you pick a solid fabric like I did.

First I cut out my straps. . .  finished side is 1 x 24, but fabric was 2-1/4 x 24 and the closing strap was 1/2 x 12 but fabric was 2 x 12.  After putting a strip of batting (3/4 x 24) in each of the handles I tucked the excess fabric in (using lots of pins).  Then I took to my sewing machine and went very slow!!!

After I got my handles and closing strap stitched I stuck them into the top of my purse and stitched around the whole top taking care to backstitch over the handles and closing strap for extra support.  Before you stitch the top shut you'll want to sew your button on the front so that you can make sure your closing strap is the correct length.

You can always "dress-up" the outside of your purse by adding a quilted flower. . . here's my flower.

I almost forgot to mention after you have your project all put together go around and snip all of the scallops so that it will fray and look more like a Rag Quilt. . . you can even through it in the washing machine to speed up the frayed process.

OK  - Finally here is my finished project!!!  I'm not 100% sure if the flower will stay on or stay where it is. . . what's your opinion???  Keep it on, take it off, or move it and where?)

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed the project today!

Scallop Square Big Shot Bag!!!

Hi Stampers,

I am so excited to share with you today the cute little bags I made on Friday.  To make a bag of your own you'll need the Big Shot and the Scallop Square Die.  Please note I am not the best with my sewing machine(yet), so don't look to close at my straight (or kinda straight) lines.  :o)

For this bag I used 8 scallop squares.  Four in the front and four in the back.  Below you'll see a picture of four of the scallops put together. I just used some fabric I had on hand, but I've went to JoAnn's and purchase some really cute fabric for my next bag.

The next picture is a close up of my bag put together.  I just love ruffle don't you?

And here is a picture of both bags all put together.  I thought starting with a small bag first would be easy, but it was actually kinda hard to get the fabric under the sewing machine.  My next bag is going to have at least 12 scallops on each side. . . I'm thinking that will be much better to work with on my machine.

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to keep checking back as I'd like to share with you my next fabric project I'm working on.

Have a GREAT Sunday!

Pillow Box Die

Hi Stampers,

Today I'd like to share with you a little gift I made my club members this month.  For this project I used the Pillow Box Bigz Die (113466 Price: $19.95).

Slip a little treat inside this petit pillow box or create a pocket full of posies. No matter what you do with this precious box, the recipient will love the amount of thought you put into it, even though it was a breeze to create.

■ To create pillow box, cut the die and fold along score marks. Adhere side of box using Sticky Strip for a firm hold, and fold ends of box in.

So here's what I came up with. :o)

And here it is again with a different strip of Designer Series Paper.

Some of the ladies couldn't get them open fast enough to get the chocolate out. :o)

Thanks for stopping by today!

p.s. I have been busy working on a project with fabric, sewing machine and my Big Shot!  Make sure you keep checking back. :o)

Fabric Flowers

Hi Stampers,

Today I'd like to share with you a few fabric flowers that my mother and I made last fall.  I had totally forgot about them until I was digging for some fabric last night and found them.

For this project we used the Flower Folds Bigz XL Die (115970 Price: $42.95) and cut out a bunch of flowers in different sizes and colors.

They were then folded in half and hand stitched together.  A button was stitched in the middle and a pin can be stitched on the back so you can put it on your coat or bag.

Here is a better picture of a single flower.

You can use Stampin’ Up!’s exclusive Flower Folds Bigz die to create multilayered, multicolor flowers, perfect for using as accents on scrapbook pages, cards, and gift boxes and bags. These flowers look beautiful as single flowers or layered.

Fabric Quilt Square

Hi Stampers,

Fabric is one of the industry's hottest trends right now, and the best part is, you don't even need to be a seamstress to get in on the action! You can create gorgeous fabric accessories and home décor, all without ever touching a sewing machine. There are myriad of options for seamstresses and non-seamstresses alike, while Stampin' Up! does not sell fabric, many of their accessories will appeal to those who love creating with textiles.

Today I'd like to share with you a Quilt Square that was created with the help of the Big Shot!

I've also created a new Fabric/Quilting Category, which you can find under Categories on the right side of this page. . . check it out to see what I've created using Fabric and my Big Shot!

Very Vintage and Vintage Vogue

Hi Stampers,

Today I'd love to share with you the first card club members get to stamp next week.  You might think it looks familiar, than you're right.  I shared this card with you before, but it was in So Saffron.

This card uses the stamp set Vintage Voge (it's even clear-mount!) and jumbo wheel, Very Vintage.  Here I used Certainly Celery . . . lucky for me I had the matching 5/8" ribbon in my stash at home and a gold brad. :o)

Here are both cards. :o)

This is a card that would look awesome in many colors. . . I'm thinking Regal Rose. . . what do you think?

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to check back tomorrow for another card club card.

Happy Moments

Hi Stampers,

We'll the weekend is almost here, and I have been trying to get ready. . . . for the second year in a row my family is off to St. Louis with friends for a long holiday weekend of shopping and the boat show.  I'm kinda scared this year, because I have a fear we'll come home with a boat.  Well we won't really come home with a boat because I'm making sure we take the car, but we might have to go back another weekend an pick up a boat. :o)

Since we are going to be gone all weekend, and card clubs are next week I have a lot of projects to plan and card stock to cut before I can go to bed Friday night. :o)  I have 2 of my 5 cards designed and cut, so I'm closer than I was last night.

For card club I am using Sale-a-bration sets, and stamps from the occasions mini catalog. . . one of the sets I want to use for club, but haven't yet is the Sale-a-bration set, Happy Moments.

Since I haven't designed my card yet, I'd like to share with you one I pulled from the Stampin' Up! website.

Colors used are: Basic Gray card stock, Old Olive card stock, Very Vanilla card stock, Basic Black Craft Stampin' Pad, Basic Gray Stampin' Write marker, Certainly Celery Stampin' Write marker and Old Olive Stampin' Write marker

Accessories: Clear Stampin' Emboss powder , Old Olive 1-1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals, Sizzix Big Shot and Petals-O-Plenty Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope to share with you some card club cards tomorrow and over the weekend.

Blake's Preschool Valentines

***Update*** For some reason when I check my blog it defaults to this post. . . . click my banner above to pull up current post.  I'm not sure what's going on, but I have been posting each day!

Hi Stampers,

Tomorrow is Blake's Valentine's Day party at Preschool, and last night we finished up his Valentines to pass out to his friends.  Blake was such a big help punching out hearts. :o)

For this project we used a couple of stamp sets.  The bear is from Under the Stars.  The greeting on back is from Smarty Pants, and the Happy Valentine's Day is a retired stamp. (sorry)  As you can see we also stamped Blake's name, and that was just a one line personalized stamp I ordered for him.  Blake was so very excited to have his name on a stamp.  When I gave it to him he gave me a big hug and said thank you!

Colors used were: Whisper White, Real Red and Chocolate Chip.  Accessories: 5/8" Chocolate Chip Ribbon, Heart Treat Cups, Large Heart Punch, Small Heart Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Liquid Glue and Sticky Strip.  Oh. . . I also used my husband's stapler, because mine is MIA. :o(

So .  . . after all of that talk would you like to see Blake's Valentines?  Lucky for us we only needed to make 10 for his class, so the pack of 12 Heart Treat Cups worked out perfect with two extras. . . of course Blake wants one for himself.

I though you might enjoy a close up of the Heart Cup .  . . it was full of M&Ms.

And so that they didn't need to tear apart the card to get the candy out I punched a hole in the back piece of card stock.

When they pull the ribbon it also moves the Chocolate chip card stock, which lets the candy come out the backside. :o)

Thanks for stopping by today and if you don't have those Valentines done yet, don't worry . . . there is still time.

There is also time to order more of these Heart Cups.  Beside Valentine's Day they would be perfect for Weddings.

Happy Stamping!
